Today we went on another water adventure. We went to a Cave Bath! It was pretty amazing, here is some information about this particular bath:
This cave bath is unique in Europe, a bathing resort placed in a cave and above hot fountains. The 30° C temperature water and the climate of the cave has curing power, especially in joint-case. However salt content of the water is lower than medicinal water – it does not reach 1000 milligramm/litre – so bathers can stay in without time limit.
Another unique feature is the "lake bath” that has been shaped into the cave bath. It has been excavated and channelled by water from hard bath stone cliff during thousands of years.
Temperature of thermal water: 29.4 °C
Content of water:
Anions:
NO3-1,3 mg/l
Cl-8 mg/l
SO42-5 mg/l
HCO3-366 mg/l
Kations:
K+ 1,9 mg/l
Ca2+. 101 mg/l
Mg2+ 11,9 mg/l
Na+. 9,2 mg/l
(For you nerdy science people)
So we head out of the apartment at 8:30 to catch a bus and arrive in 30 minutes. I have really enjoyed the public transportation and wish we had more of it at home.
The bus drops us off and we proceed using Google maps to walk the remaining way. (On our way back we find that Google took us the long walking way, this is the second time this happened. BTW Google is actually really GREAT for public transportation mapping)
I digress... We arrive at the baths and head in. We purchased 4 hour tickets for for all of us for approx $33 US total. We received these cool bands that track your time. If you go over 4 hrs you have to pay extra.
I unfortunately forgot my underwater camera so I could only take pics from a safe distance with my phone :(
The cave was very serene, warm, and waist to chest high at varing places. Lots of tunnels that take you to different entry and exit places. There are five parts to the inside cave bath, Bath Hall, Old Cave Basin, 2 thermal basins, Roman Hall, and Star Hall. It was such an amazing experience!
After enjoying inside for a bit we decided to venture to the outside pools. The clouds were intermittent so it would get chilly at times especially after being in the warmer waters of the cave. LG wanted to go to the kiddie pool but did not like getting splashed by the water gun or mister so we headed to a larger pool (basin) called the Lake Bath Experience Basin (no clue for the fancy name). Here is where we spent most of the outside swimming time since it was warm and had some bench seating in the pool. Soon we went back to the warmer waters of the cave. Austin was super happy to find they turn on the whirlpool jets and the water was now quickly moving like a lazy river, however the crowd had also grown. After a couple rounds in the whirling water we changed to eat lunch and leave. Our goal was to get home for LG to have a decent nap. Got ok Hungarian food of hotdog, gyros (real pita one this time but with chicken), and Langos for lunch. Tony and I even tried a microbrew beer they had. However, of the two they served, ginger and lager, they were out of the lager. The ginger was better than I thought it would be. Off to catch the bus and head home!
After naps for LG and I, we packed clothes, while LG kept trying to unpack his suitcase. Then we headed to the park, shopping, and dinner. LG prefers European style bathing suits so I picked up two more for home. Then we stopped at an 'American restaurant'. The place was decorated with New York City themes. It is interesting getting others take on American food, as I bet other cultures feel the same! LG had the meatloaf (2 burgers wrapped in bacon) I had cold fruit soup and pork nachos, Tony had a Nachos burger, and Austin wasn't feeling very hungry so he just ate a pbj when we got home.
One day to go before Adoption Day!!!
